Innnnnnnnnnn West Philadelphia….

Don’t tell me you didn’t just start rapping that title and theme song! LOL. I visited Philadelphia last week for the first time and thankfully it did not disappoint! Although I was here for work, I was able to get out and explore the city in the afternoon/night a couple of times. Below are a few of my favorite things I explored + a list of a little extras that are fairly low cost, free, or you should make time for.

-Located at the Global Leadership Academy School in West Philadelphia, this is a mural of the one and only Philly native, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air himself, Will Smith. Very cool seeing this in person as it’s modeled after the official Presidential portrait of the only president who matters (LOL) Barack Obama. Con, it’s located on a the side of the building however, it is inside a locked school gate. Although it’s still visible from the street, it would’ve been nice to get a head on shot. My sidewalk shots didn’t turn out half bad though πŸ€— I also had a colleague with me so I was able to get some shots with me in it too (which never happens + I never post lol)

P.S.-the address for the mural is 4601 W. Girard Avenue.

-Made famous by all the rocky films, the Philadelphia Museum of Art is home of the infamous steps. Unfortunately, I was unable to actually go inside the museum as it closes at 5:00 PM pretty much daily, but I did get some greats shots/boomerangs of the steps. Next door to the museum is the bronze statue of Rocky. As always, photos are free, but if you’re looking for more, tickets prices for the museum range from $14-20. Pretty expensive for a museum if you ask me but hey πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ ball out if you have it like that!

P.S.-admission to the museum is free the 1st Sunday of every month, and every Wednesday from 5:00pm-8:00pm. Military personnel receive an admission reduction.

-The best recreational time I had during this trip was at Spruce Street Harbor Park. Recommended by a colleague, I didn’t know what to expect. While we headed there I checked out the website and the food options didn’t seem that extensive or great tbh. BUT! This was a lesson for me to stop being so judgey LOL. πŸ˜‚πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ Not only was this the most fun I had during the trip, but it was also the best food! Located right on the water (harbor), the “Park” or I liked to call it, Boardwalk, reminded me of Pandora from Avatar πŸ˜‚ No seriously, just take a look below:

Also, in the trees you’re able to sit and lay in a hammock. THIS WAS PANDORA YA’LL! Not only are they playing good music (live band and today’s hits), but they have quite a few life-sized games you can play including: Jenga, Connect 4, Chess, and Ping-Pong.

-The best part of the harbor was the great meal I had. Super basic meal, but it was the best I had in Philly. It’s called “Chickies & Pete’s.” Known for their famous Crab Fries 🍟, I wanted to check it out. I ordered a bucket of Crab Fries and a basket of buffalo wings. In my mind, I’m like “this is lowkey false advertisement” as there was no crab meat in the fries which is what I was expecting LMAO πŸ˜©πŸ˜‚ Can you blame me? πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™€οΈ The fries came with a crab dipping sauce, which was BOMB! The only con I have is that they put WAYYYYYYYYYYY too much seasoning salt on the fries. My colleagues and I couldn’t even finish our buckets because of the salt. But a strong 9/10 in spite of that. The wings were great too! Pretty pricey tbh as my meal + drink came to about $21 and some change but it’s nice if you’re looking for a night out to break lose on the week night/weekend.

All down the boardwalk you’ll find different kind of food- ice cream (2 shops), a vegan restaurant, taco stand and a couple more. Definitely recommend going. The games (with the exception of ping pong) are all free. As are the hammocks.

Let me tell you about the most trash meal I had in Philly LOL πŸ˜‚ Y’all I was so mad, LMAO. So of course it’s Philly so I had to try a cheesesteak as I had never had one before. We ended up at a place called Dalessandro’s Steaks. This eatery was located in West Philly and not too far from the Will Smith mural. It was also rated #1 on Yelp for the area we were in. And if that wasn’t enough, a friend of mine from Philly told me to go here too. TRASH! STRAIGHT TRASH! Lol. I did not enjoy it at all. And I know I’m not crazy because I was with 2 colleagues and 1 of them agreed with me that it was not that great. And it’s crazy because all they need is one thing (besides better customer service): SEASONING ON THE MEAT!!πŸ₯© That meat was so bland and plain it was sad. I was so disappointed. They ask you if you want the extra fixings and all that on it but it doesn’t cover up the fact that the meat has no seasoning. I’m not sure how this is so highly rated and recommended on Yelp.

Philadelphia, you were good to me (except for the trash-ass cheesesteak lmao πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚), until next time. ✌🏾

P.S.-I was told to check out the Reading Market Terminal but didn’t have time. If you have time, I would definitely check it out. From the website looks to be really alive with good options. But be careful, they close at 6 everyday. Check out their great website below!

It looks like a fun mini explore after work!! πŸ˜€ I mean, apart from the cheesesteak! That just sounds like a total disappointment!!
